Rochester Riverside planning application

Two property providers have submitted a joint application for the Rochester Riverside residential and commercial development.
Developers Countryside, together with housing association Hyde had submitted the application for the £400 million project, which would provide up to 1,400 new homes and 1,200 sq m commercial space on the Rochester riverside.
The development's plans also include building a primary school and nursery, as well as parking, a footbridge and landscaped open spaces. There are also plans for healthcare services, shops and restaurants.
Currently three phases of the development are under application to immediately build 480 properties, a hotel and 885 sq m for commercial floorspace and other amenities. At least 25% of the homes have been earmarked for affordable housing. Architects bptw partnership is leading on developing detailed designs for the first three phases, whilst HTA Design provide the outline masterplan.
The application has been praised by both local councillors and development managers alike. Neil Miller of the Thames Gateway Homes and Communities Agency said: “We are looking forward to working with them to transform this derelict area of Rochester and are committed to ensuring the development meets our aims of providing high-quality homes, including genuinely affordable housing.”
Councillor Rodney Chambers, Portfolio Holder for Inward Investment, Strategic Regeneration and Partnerships spoke of the impact this new development would have: “The proposed development is set to boost the local economy providing new jobs, shops and facilities and helping us to meet the needs of Medway’s growing population."
