Conference tackles skills initiatives

Fri 9 April 2010, 1:13 pm

Representatives from the public, private and voluntary sectors across Medway and North Kent met in Rochester in March to discuss employment and skills initiatives.
Medway Council's portfolio holder for strategic development and economic growth councillor Jane Chitty opened the Integrating Employment and Skills Initiatives conference.
Speaking before prime minister Gordon Brown announced the general election, councillor Chitty said: "Regeneration is a word often used to describe physical changes around us, but itís much more than that."

"It is important that Medway is a place to work and develop as much as a place to live and that those who live in Medway have the opportunity to reap the benefits of regeneration through jobs, training and a greater quality of life.

"We are committed to tackling unemployment and the challenging effects of the recession by working closely with our partners in engaging and supporting local people find jobs and training opportunities, and as such, we have developed a range of initiatives to help people back into employment. I am so pleased to say that many of these have been a real success."
