Next month sees the opening of a brand new cancer care unit at Medway Maritime Hospital.
The building, designed in conjunction with Macmillan nurses and patients, took one year to construct, and will provide care and treatment for 19 inpatients.
Brian Edwards, estates building project manager at Medway NHS Foundation Trust, said: “The physical build project is now practically complete. Contractors have handed over the keys for the new unit and staff are busy furnishing it and installing equipment in preparation for the unit opening its doors to patients on 1 September.”
“Inspired by staff, patient representatives and carers, and working in partnership with Macmillan's cancer environments team, the building work has taken 12 months to complete and we couldn’t be more pleased with the outcome.”
